Working With Patterns Photoshop Tutorial


Working with patterns can be very easy, yet, very important in the world of web design. Whether you want to create a forum signature, a website header or logo or maybe digitalizing an image, patterns will help you create amazing effects with few clicks. I’ll start by showing you some examples:

Let’s start by defining patterns:

1. Press CTRL + N to create a new image and fill the following:

2. Zoom to 1600% to see this canvas:

3. Select the Pencil Tool:

4. Set the foreground color Black.

5. Draw the lower pixel to get the following:

6. Go to Edit > Define Pattern:

Now, we’re done with defining the pattern. Let’s use it! Open any image or logo, and create a new layer (CTRL + SHIFT + N).

8. Select the Paint Bucket Tool, then set source to fill area to Pattern:

9. Select the Horizontal Lines pattern that we already defined:

10. Finally fill the new layer with this pattern… You can play with the blending options of this layer to have different lines colors or maybe transparency!
