It's just he had other tastes and influences that took Jerry in other directions. Originally, he was actually more interested in what you might call jug band music. Bluegrass and the music of the Appalachian Mntns. Oh....and one minor correction to the post above. Stevie did not die after a concert in Chicago. He was doing an all out one helluva jam with the likes of Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, his brother Jimmy and other at Alpine Valley just outside of East Troy, Wis. The night was incredible! It was only after the show that the weather turned and the fog rolled in. His helicopter didn't make it over the ski-hill there.
